Minnows
The student will become acclimated to the water, get comfortable putting face in, blowing bubbles, and jumping in with a submerged face/head. Skills like floating, kicking and treading water without assistance are also mastered at this level. At this time, beginner-level pool safety skills are also being introduced.
Starfish
At this level, “minnow” skills are already mastered. Students are comfortable being in the water and will work on propelling themselves forward independently with good form and rhythmic breathing. The basics of backstroke and freestyle are introduced.
Flounders
The goal at this level is for the student to learn to swim freestyle and backstroke unassisted for at least 15 yards each. Students will also be introduced to deep-water swimming as they work on retrieving objects from 5 feet 6 inches below the water. With this practice, students gain the ability to orientate themselves independently through the water.
Squiddies
All skills introduced in the previous levels are mastered. At this level, students will work on their ability to swim freestyle and backstroke for 50 yards. The students are familiarized with the basics of breaststroke, butterfly, and entering the pool from a dive.
Dolphins
At this level, the student has great endurance in both freestyle and backstroke. Students will develop their skills and begin to master breaststroke as well as butterfly. The student also understands the basics of entering the pool from a dive and performing a flip turn.
Sand Sharks
At this level, the student has great endurance in both freestyle and backstroke. Students will develop their skills and begin to master breaststroke as well as butterfly. The student also understands the basics of entering the pool from a dive and performing a flip turn.
